About this Speaker

Maria and Emmet Rushe are a husband and wife team from Donegal. Together they run Rushe Fitness, Letterkenny’s leading fitness community. They also own and will soon be launching Opti-Mum, an app which allows women to train with Maria and Emmet from the comfort of their own home.

Emmet has been training and involved in fitness for almost 25 years. Rushe Fitness has been in operation for 10 years and his award winning, state of the art facility Rushe Fitness Letterkenny has been open and expanding for the last 6.

His online presence is strong, and his no nonsense approach to fitness and nutrition resonates with people all over the world.

He has written a weekly health and fitness column for Donegal Daily for the past 6 years and also for Donegal Woman for the past 3 years.

He has also been featured in the Irish Independent and is a featured Fitness and health expert on Highland radio.

In 2016, Emmet piloted his app and had clients as far afield as Canada and Australia training with him in their homes to great success.

This has formed the basis of his new online coaching app Habi-Fit and their flagship program Opti-Mum.

He is a highly qualified and respected coach and nutrition coach and has trained all over the world, learning from the best in the business.

Maria is an award winning Parenting Blogger and writer, who has taught English and Drama for almost 20 years. She also teaches SPHE to young adults and with a background in dance and musical theatre, has been passionate about fitness and body positivity for years. She has delivered talks on balancing parenting with business, and on social media influence on mums. Maria writes a weekly parenting column for Donegal Woman and has been featured in The Irish Independent, Irish Examiner, Irish TImes. A fluent Irish speaker, she has contributed to Radio na Gaeltachta and has also been interviewed on Highland Radio.

In 2018, Maria decided to step out of the office and onto the gym floor to teach fitness classes alongside Emmet. She trained and qualified as a Fitness Instructor and introduced Strong by Zumba to Letterkenny. She still teaches words to Leaving Certificate level, but has found a new love in teaching fitness and aims to promote body confidence and strength to women of all ages.

Maria and Emmet are a driven and motivated couple, and with two little girls, life is busy for the Rushe Family. They are highly active in their local community, organising charity events and speaking at events in Donegal. Their annual Summer Shape Up has developed from a member’s challenge into a Summer community initiative, in which they collaborate with businesses all over the North West to promote Donegal.
